Step into the shoes of a real-world medical microbiologist and run a classic Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion assay right at home! The Zones of Inhibition lab takes you far beyond basic swabbing by giving you a way to precisely measure and rank the effectiveness of different household cleaners. Using your sterile tweezers, you'll place sterile filter paper disks dipped in everyday cleaners onto a freshly swabbed agar plate. As the microbes incubate and grow, you'll watch for the formation of distinct 'zones of inhibition'—clear rings around the disks where the cleaners successfully prevented microbial growth. Use the included clear laboratory ruler to measure these zones in millimeters, allowing you to directly compare and quantify which chemical agents are the most effective at keeping surfaces clean. To ensure a flawless experience, we've included a full double-supply of 10 agar plates, 12 swabs, and disposable laboratory gloves—giving you total insurance against mistakes or the freedom to run a whole second trial. WARNING: Always test cleaners individually in their designated areas. NEVER mix or combine the provided cleaning solutions together, as mixing household agents can trigger hazardous chemical reactions and produce dangerous fumes.
